Google Play Feature Graphic Generator

Make the 1024 × 500 Google Play feature graphic with safe-area guides and a no-alpha export

Every Google Play store listing needs a feature graphic: the wide banner Google uses as your promo video’s cover and in collections and recommendations. This tool makes it at the exact size Play Console requires, 1024 × 500, from a headline, an optional icon, and a screenshot or artwork. Guides show the safe area and where the promo-video play button lands, the pre-flight panel checks your text against Google Play’s metadata rules, and the export is a JPEG or a 24-bit PNG with no alpha channel. Everything runs in your browser.

Pre-flight checks

  • No problems found in your text, and it contrasts well with the background.
Google’s other guidance for the feature graphic
  • Exactly 1024 × 500 px, JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha. Every file here meets that.
  • Keep logos and text away from the edges. The graphic can be cropped or overlaid depending on where it’s shown.
  • If you add a promo video, Google places a play button over the center. Turn on “My listing has a promo video” to keep text clear of it.
  • Show Android devices only. Don’t picture iPhones or other platforms.
  • Avoid small text and fine detail; the graphic is often displayed much smaller than 1024 px.
  • Localize the graphic for each language your listing supports.
  • Play size and safe margin guides are estimates; Google doesn’t publish exact numbers. Check the preview in Play Console before you publish.

Size and format are from Google’s Play Console Help page, Add preview assets to showcase your app. Google doesn’t publish a safe-area size or the exact size of the play button, so the guides in this tool are estimates. Check the preview in Play Console before you publish.

Designing for a small, cropped banner

The feature graphic is rarely shown at full size. On a phone it’s a strip roughly a third as wide as the file, so a 20 px subhead becomes about 7 px. Use one short, large headline, keep it off the edges, and let the background run all the way out. If you have a promo video, keep the middle free for the play button and put your text to one side.

Show your app running on Android, not an iPhone or another platform, and keep claims out of the artwork. Google Play’s metadata policy rules out claims like “free”, “#1”, or “best” in your listing, and a feature graphic is part of the listing.

Frequently asked questions

What size is the Google Play feature graphic?

Exactly 1024 × 500 pixels, as a JPEG or a 24-bit PNG with no alpha channel. This tool always exports at 1024 × 500 no matter how large your source images are.

What file format does the feature graphic need?

JPEG or 24-bit PNG with no alpha channel. Browsers and most design tools save PNGs with an alpha channel even when every pixel is opaque, which is not 24-bit. The PNG export here is encoded as a true RGB PNG with no alpha. The JPEG export has no alpha by design.

Do I need a feature graphic to publish my app?

Yes. The feature graphic is one of the required graphics on your main store listing in Play Console, along with the app icon and screenshots, so you need one before you can publish. Google also uses it as the cover image for your promo video and in places like app collections and recommendations.

Where does the feature graphic appear?

Google says it’s used as the cover image for your promo video, in app collections, and in recommendations such as groups of suggested games. It’s shown at different sizes and can be cropped or overlaid depending on the placement, so keep your logo and text well away from the edges. The safe-area guide in this tool marks a margin you can adjust.

What happens to the feature graphic if I add a promo video?

If your listing has a promo video (a YouTube URL), Google uses the feature graphic as the video’s cover and overlays a play button on it. Google doesn’t publish the button’s position or size, but it typically sits near the center, so anything you put dead center can end up underneath it. Turn on “My listing has a promo video” to see an estimated play button, and the side layouts automatically keep your text out of that zone.

What text is allowed on a feature graphic?

Short, descriptive text is fine. Google Play’s metadata policy rules out store performance or ranking claims (its examples include “#1”, “Popular”, “App of the year”, and award icons), price and promotional information (“10% off”, “free for limited time only”), references to Google Play programs such as “Editor’s choice” or “New”, emoji, repeated special characters, and ALL CAPS unless it’s your brand. The pre-flight panel also flags things that read the same way, like “best”, star ratings, download counts, and “free”. Two more are good practice rather than written rules: skip calls to action like “download now” (the install button is right there), and show Android devices rather than an iPhone or the App Store. The checks run on your headline and subhead as you type.

Should the feature graphic include my app name and icon?

It doesn’t need to. Your app name and icon are already shown on the listing, so repeating them takes room away from your message. Many good feature graphics use a short headline and real app artwork instead. The icon is optional here, and you can enter your app name so the checks can tell you if the headline repeats it.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Rendering and PNG or JPEG encoding happen in your browser. Your icon, screenshots, and unreleased artwork never leave your machine.
