Why are my iPhone photos HEIC files?
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) by default because it stores the same quality as JPG in roughly half the file size. The catch: Windows, older Android devices, most web upload forms, and plenty of apps still don't accept it. Converting to JPG — the format everything understands — is the quickest fix.
