Is my camera feed uploaded or recorded?
No. The video stream goes straight from your camera to the page you are looking at and nowhere else — no server ever receives a frame. Snapshots are generated inside your browser and saved directly to your downloads folder.
Why is my webcam preview black?
Usual suspects in order: a physical privacy shutter is closed, another app (Zoom, Teams, OBS) holds the camera, the wrong device is selected in the dropdown, or the OS has camera access disabled for your browser. Close other apps and use the "Try again" button after fixing access.
Why is the measured FPS lower than my camera's advertised frame rate?
Most webcams silently halve their frame rate in poor lighting to keep exposure up — 30 fps cameras routinely deliver 15 fps or less in a dim room. Add light facing you and watch the measured number climb. Heavy CPU load and power-saving modes also drag it down.
What resolution should my webcam show?
The readout shows what the browser actually negotiated, which is usually the camera's default rather than its maximum. A "1080p" camera reporting 1280×720 here is normal — video-call apps typically request 720p. What matters for calls is a sharp, well-lit picture at whatever resolution is shown.
Why does the preview look flipped?
The preview starts mirrored because that is what people expect from a mirror image of themselves — it is how every video-call app shows your self-view. Other participants see you unmirrored. Use the Unmirror button to see exactly what they see, including any text visible in frame.
