Does the timer keep running if I switch to another tab?
Yes. The timer stores the timestamp when the current phase ends and always derives the remaining time from that, rather than counting ticks — so browser throttling of background tabs cannot make it drift. If the tab sleeps through one or more phase changes entirely, the timer catches up through the missed phases the moment it runs again; an alert can arrive late in a heavily throttled tab, but the clock itself is never wrong.
How do notifications work?
Browser notifications are strictly opt-in: permission is only requested when you flip the notification toggle yourself, never on page load. Whether or not you enable them, every phase change also plays a short double beep and flashes the page, and while the timer runs the remaining time is shown in the tab title — so you can see the countdown from any other tab.
